Tips & Hints
*SERVICE your pellet stove during the off season to save and avoid long waits. Call or text 978 914-3582 to schedule.
*SAWDUST (fines) can cause auger jams and motor damage. Mitigate buildup at the bottom of your hopper to avoid costly repairs. Consider letting the pellet stove run completely empty of pellets every 10-15 bags so that you can vacuum out the fines (sawdust) that accumulated in the hopper.
You can also consider transferring pellets into a bucket before pouring them into the appliance. This way, you can capture the fines at the bottom of the bucket instead.
*POWER SURGES: We strongly recommend that you plug your pellet stove into a surge protector. Not doing so can result in damage and then, replacement of an expensive board. Also, when not in use during the off season, we suggest that you unplug your appliance from the outlet.
*STOVE GLASS:Never spray glass cleaner or any liquid on hot stove glass. This is neo-ceramic glass and even a small piece is expensive. Let the stove cool down completely before cleaning your stove glass. Speaking of which, grey or light brown ash on the glass is normal byproducts of combustion, while black, sooty deposits are an indication of an air flow issue. If your pellet stove has a manual damper, and it is producing black, sooty deposits on the glass and walls of the burn chamber, consider opening (pulling the damper out) a little at a time to see if that action corrects the issue. If not, give us a call to schedule a cleaning.
HUMIDITY: During the off-season, humidity can foul pellets from the previous season. We suggest that you let the stove run empty on the last day of the burning season. If you cannot do that, you may consider silica bead moisture absorbing products such as DAMP RID to help protect the wood pellets that remain in the hopper during the warm spring and summer months. Sawdust just wants to turn back into a pile of sawdust and will absorb moiusture at any chance it gets. Consider using DAMP RID even if your appliance is void of stored pellets. Humidity can affect ash that may still be in the burn chamber and exhaust ports, which can hecome a slick wet costic coating that can help form rust on the walls of the burn chambeer, and deeper into the stove.
